cotton98_159940170259The country's foreign exchange reserves rose by $954.6 million to $294.36 billion on account of gains in the value of gold reserves, the Reserve Bank said on Friday. In the previous reporting week, the reserves had dipped by $383.7 million to $293.41 billion. After remaining unchanged for multiple weeks, the gold reserves surged by $902.3 million to $20.978 billion for the week neded February 28, the Reserve Bank said on Friday.

Vietnamese state media, quoting a senior naval official, had reported that the Boeing 777-200ER flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing had crashed off south Vietnam, but Malaysia's transport minister later denied any crash scene had been identified.
NEW DELHI: Drug maker Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd has recalled more than 64,000 bottles of the generic versions of its cholesterol-lowering drug in the United States due to reports of a dose mix-up, US regulators said. Ranbaxy recalled tablets of atorvastatin calcium, the generic name for Lipitor's active ingredient, after a pharmacist found a 20-milligram tablet in a sealed bottle marked for 10-milligram tablets, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on its website.

Petronas' plan to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on Canada's Pacific coast edged closer to reality on Friday, as the Malaysian energy giant secured a third equity and offtake partner for the massive gas export project. Petronas said it would sell state-owned refiner Indian Oil Corp (IOC) a 10 percent stake in its Pacific NorthWest LNG project, along with a 10 per cent stake in the northern British Columbia shale gas assets that will feed the LNG facility.
coal-New Delhi: Fair trade regulator CCI has approved stake purchase of Tata Group entities into auto component maker Varroc Engineering Pvt Ltd (VEPL) saying the deal will not have any 'adverse effect' on competition in the country. Two Tata Group entities --Omega TC Holdings and Tata Capital Financial Services Ltd (TCFSL)--in January had announced that they would acquire certain number of equity and compulsory convertible preference shares of VEPL.
New Delhi: Glenmark Pharmaceuticals has received fair trade watchdog CCI's approval for the proposed merger of two subsidiaries with itself. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has given the green signal for the merger of Glenmark Access Ltd and Glenmark Generics Ltd with Glenmark Pharmaceuticals. Giving its nod, CCI said "there would be no change in the ultimate control as a result of the proposed combination".
